Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is most blessed of them all?

If you ask the right mirror, the answer will be a definitive YOU! Because it is for you that Christ came, died, arose, and ascended. It is you who God has seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus and given all spiritual blessings! You are blessed - and the Bible is all about that!

Yet, for many of us, there's a great divide between who we know ourselves to be, and who God (in his Word) declares us to be. We look in our mirrors and know that beneath our smiles and halos, there's some dirt and some infirmity, yet the Bible declares righteousness and victory are already our portion: The mystery! And once we cannot wrap our finger around it, we conclude it's just good will and a declaration more of what we can be (potential) than who we are (reality).

Blessed things are said in reference to us in scripture, yet in daily reality, we can’t seem to see these promises. We read things like ‘by His stripes we are healed’ and ‘we are more than conquerors’, yet we fall ill and are oftentimes unsuccessful at certain endeavours to which we put our hands. Why is this so?

First, we must consider that the physical and the spiritual have different reference frames and are in many ways contradictory to one another (Galatians 5:17).  The physical runs on laws of carnality. Where carnal doesn’t mean sinful; it basically means belonging to the five senses (feeling, sight, hearing, smelling and tasting; every sin is carnal, but not every carnality is sin). The spiritual however runs on laws of faith, which comes by the Word of God - His Word is Spiritual law.

Even in the physical, there are certain things that cannot be perceived with the senses except with special aids.

Imagine I have an important visitor, and want to check if I look my best -  At that point, can I feel, or perceive by any of my five carnal senses if my face is in good shape? Can I feel if my hair is brushed?  Can I feel if my face looks fair or dark? The answer is an obvious No! In actual fact, none of us have ever perceived our natural faces with our own eyes; we have only seen a reflection of them in a glass, mirror, picture or on an appropriate surface.

So now consider this, if not all things in the physical plane can simply be felt; How much more the spiritual?!

So when God tells us we’re healed, and we say “well that’s what God said, but I feel ill”. Or when God tells us that all power is given unto us in Christ, we say “I know myself, I’m not powerful, I don’t feel any different” ! are we not in error?

The Bible declares that "We walk by faith and not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7) we cannot rely on our canal senses!

Our problem in relating with the spiritual realm is we are operating with this skewed physical realm approach - we only believe things that we can see and feel! And that's Carnality!

The Word of God is spiritual fact and the Highest truth, and is more real than whatever we can perceive in the realm of current experience.

It’s true that sometimes we feel certain Spiritual expressions (just like you could probably feel waves in your hair with your hand), but the true, actual, full picture is ONLY seen when you look into the Mirror!

[James 1:23-25 AMP]  23. For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror; 24. For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like. 25. But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).

The Bible clearly declares that the Word of God is the spiritual Mirror where we see who we truly are spiritually, when we obey and believe the witness of the mirror, and persevere in looking into it; we then receive the blessing in the physical also. That’s how the blessing manifests! The spiritual first, then the physical! In faith first, then experience next!

[2 Cor. 3:18 AMP] And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendour and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.

Hallelujah! As we look into the mirror we are transfigured into His image, from glory to glory. That’s when we start seeing the blessings spoken of manifest in our lives.  It is only when we agree with the image of the mirror that we can start to act like what the mirror declares we are. If I hadn’t seen that I looked beautiful in a mirror, I couldn’t act like a beautiful person. Take a good look at yourself in the Word of God today!

Now let’s reconsider a simple scenario; imagine we were poor people, born into a world system where there were no mirrors or surfaces for seeing our image - We have never seen a mirror before!  This means that from birth, we really don’t know how we look or the changes that are going on in our faces in detail, except by what our hands can detect, and what those around us tell us.

Then imagine we are invited to live in a wealthy land, however we are still poor. The King of this paradise declares that anyone who is beautiful can join his family and partake of His wealth. Any ugly people who showed up would be humiliated and driven away. Now we are in a predicament - we can’t go and see the king to redeem our promised wealth because we are not sure if we’re beautiful; we’ve never seen our faces before. Our uncertainty and unbelief hold us back! Our enemy keeps saying “you’re not good enough, you don’t qualify!”. Then, in an act of grace and love, the King sends messengers with this strange substance which they tell us to look in; they say it’s called a mirror, and if we look into it, we’ll see how we truly are.” What Nonsense!!” says the unbelieving person? "How can I look at some substance and see my true self? How can this mirror or whatever you call it show me who I am?" How can a bible show me who I am? Wasn’t the mirror made many years before I was born? Wasn’t the bible, written years before I was born?

You see, the people in the scenario can’t believe the testimony of the mirror because they’ve grown up in a world system where it's testimony is non-existent, and for so many years have grown accustomed to listening to what their world says. Likewise, when we were unsaved, we subscribed to a world system where the counsel of God’s word did not exist to us, and even now, though we are no longer of this world, we still live in it! Now just like those people to their mirror; we have to take that bold step to first believe that the image we see in the Word is truly us! We have to believe that it’s a perfect representation of who we truly are: We need to have faith!!! Without faith in our mirror, we can never redeem our promise; faith has become the currency for redemption of the prize! And how does faith come? By intent gazing into the mirror!

Who convinces and convicts us that a mirror truly works? Who explains and teaches our simple minds that a mirror simply works with the principle of light to show us our image? We need a friend who is patient and truly loves us to patiently teach ignorant and stubborn old us. Only someone who knows this truth can lead us into it. It takes the Holy Spirit to teach and lead us into the truth - he’s the Spirit of truth! The Word of God is spirit (spiritual) and hence requires a spiritual teacher.

Now just imagine if we have no relationship with this teacher friend? Imagine if we couldn’t hear him clearly or didn’t listen to him or didn’t have him? Whoever we are, if we are to truly obtain God's precious promises, we need the Holy Ghost!

[John 16:13 AMP] But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].

Hallelujah! It is the truth that will set us free from these restraints a carnal outlook has placed on us. Let's intently gaze into the spiritual mirror today, and every single day! Let's meditate on the word day and night! The image therein qualifies us for a glorious blessing. All we have to do is agree with the mirror’s testimony. If we find it hard interpreting the mirror image, or believing, we just need ask the Spirit of truth : and in his light, shall we see light! Amen!
